These reading systems are the undercurrent of my creation
These reading systems are the undercurrent of my creation If we can have a common symbolic language, it is because we create nothing. In order to create, we should be able to express ourselves in other dimensions the way mathematicians do. In our four conventional dimensions, we use more or less genius and imagination to use the existing possibilities. On the basis of these four dimensions which limit our means of expressing ourselves, I can say that the purest abstract is only a figurative representation of a world the spectator has not yet come across. Once this confrontation accomplished, he or she will penetrate this world with his or her own delay and will make it his or hers. For him or her, this "abstract" will become figurative. Macrophotography is a marvellous illustration for this theory. It would be better to talk about "concrete" paintings and to keep abstraction for the symbols we use every day, by which I mean numbers, letters and, for others, music notes. I would like to open another concept of artistic exhibitions based on an exchange, generally a friendly debate, always enriching by the discussions that arise. I had this idea while studying perception of art in Asia, Africa or Amerindian countries, where works of art must be seen in three ways : magic, didactic and initiatory. Magic : the effect produced by simple observation of the work of art, which can be well-being, unrest, mysticism or others. Didactic : the observation of the work as an object. This runs to interest towards the artist's know-how, studies and intentions. Initiatory : once his or her opinion is formed, the spectator receives from the creator an explanation about the work of art. The spectator is free to accept or reject it, to change his opinion or to agree completely with the artist. Maybe the artist will even discover another side of his or her personality. A salutary lesson for all involved. Previous page: Previous - Next page: Next
