The magic of Art and the art of magic, or the creative process at the service of Life and its destiny

The magic of Art and the art of magic, or the creative process at the service of Life and its destiny.

Letting go, wanting not to want, letting oneself go and letting things come as they will.
The artist creates nothing and acts as a pioneer, discovering the limits of possibility whatever the subject matter. Art in practice is not reproducing that which is visible, but making things visible (Soufi saying).
That is true for figurative art as well as for abstract.
To fully complete the artistic gesture is to fully complete oneself, going a bit further every day, every day checking and correcting our assumptions.
There are "realities" which overshoot our assumptions.
Our acts often overshoot our thoughts, as do our words. But can our thoughts thoughtlessly overshoot our mind ?
To reach one's own spirit in Art is to cleanse oneself of one's culture. To do this, we need to be able to distinguish between the phrases dictated by this culture and the intelligence coming from the Universe which guides us.
The idea is to recognize among many common gestures the actions which escape us, like a mathematician who multiplies known quantities to push out the unknown and the unforeseen. Involuntary concepts and gestures arise from planned actions.
We are non-conscious when cleansed of all subconscious acquisitions. This non-conscience is magic, as it flutters and flies straight to the target specially created for it by the artist's conscience. The world which arises from such reasoning can lead to any kind of creation.
Imagination, fairies and fantastic worlds are no more inventions than our strictest thoughts. It all depends on the artist's capacity for intuition and letting go, as it would for anybody in any area of study. I will never stop repeating this, as the following notions are extremely important for me.
Let's have another look at the idea of the three levels of study for any one work.

Aesthetic : a subjective way of looking at things. To say that something is beautiful and that something else is ugly is a position which involves only one person at a time.
Magic : intuitive and subconscious, even unconscious or non-conscious when the painting achieves its ultimate goal in bringing the spectator to open a door towards a hidden part of himself or of the Universe... or any other thing or event directly linked with the Universal rather than the anecdotal.
Initiatory : of the conscious order, when the spectator realizes the possible readings of the painting by the discovery of the artist's intentions or previous studies before or during the execution of the painting itself.

Vanity and humility are the bases of acculturation (not to be confused with acculturation). Because of these two notions, the innate potential of human beings pushes them to refuse exterior input as they are capable of thinking by themselves. I do not claim maternity rights for my thoughts and thereby for my paintings so that every person can make them his, after having been through the initiatory ritual.

Beauty

The notion of beauty is capital for the well-being of humanity. We know that my research aims to find a way to touch every person's sensibility, wherever they come from. The first question I may ask is the following :
What is the interactive link between Beauty and Good ?
There is a difference in meaning between Beauty and Good. I strongly believe that Good comes from Beauty, and not the other way round.
Bring together decent people, although without any artistic sense whatsoever, in one place : however competent in their own fields, these people will not necessarily create an aesthetically pleasing universe. They might wait for an artist to create this, but they will not try themselves, or if they do, they will not be satisfied.
On the other hand, create a beautiful universe and there will hatch a serene atmosphere, favourable to thought and intellectual or scientific development. This is the role of decorators, architects and any artist.
Experience has taught us that areas where delinquency is a real problem have had less insecurity since the environmental work on the area has concentrated on introducing Beauty.
Contrary to some philosophers who stick to a conceptual representation of Beauty and Good, the "real-life" application of these notions tends to prove that Good comes from Beauty. To claim the opposite would be to deny the numerous attempts to save our planet's environment.
To live happily, human beings have to evolve in Beauty.
Good therefore comes from Beauty.
